About Us |
|
Stop Shaken Baby Syndrome, Inc. was founded in July 2007 by Jennipher Dickens. Jennipher is the mother of a shaken baby and has made it her mission to try and help prevent SBS from happening to other innocent children. Cindy Franciosa joined the organization in September 2007 based on her great interest in better protecting innocent children in the future. Shannon Byron came to Stop SBS in January 2008. She is also the mother of an SBS survivor. Stop SBS, Inc. is a non-profit corporation (501c3 status pending) originating out of Windsor, North Carolina that focuses on prevention of SBS through education. We have implemented hospital education programs for new parents before they leave the hospital with their infants, and we gladly give presentations on SBS to any community group that requests one. Our hospital education programs include the new parents watching an 11-minute DVD on the dangers of shaking a baby, being given brochures which provide more information on what SBS is all about and how to cope with crying, and nurses speaking with the parents one-on-one to ensure they understand all that is being presented to them. Our organization trains the nurses to make sure they know how to best approach the parents in a way that will stick with them for years to come. We also hope to help get the National Shaken Baby Prevention Act of 2007 passed in the United States Congress. For more information on that, please see our “How You Can Help” page. Jennipher is also a member of the “Keeping Babies Safe in NC” Period of PURPLE crying leadership team, headed by a UNC-Chapel Hill/Duke University partnership with the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome. This is a volunteer-operated, charity organization. We operate solely on donations, grants, and the personal contributions of our founder. We do not accept or expect any personal compensation for our actions and are not seeking any monetary compensation for doing what we do. We simply hope to make a better, safer world for children in the future. |
